Former President of Romania visits Church of Panagia Paramythia

On Friday, February 23, 2024, the third President of Romania (1996-2000), Professor Emil Constantinescu, visited the Church of Panagia Paramythia Vlahasaray with his wife and colleagues, accompanied by the director of the Romanian Cultural Center in Istanbul, Dimitris Cantemir, and executives of the Center.

The President, who is known for his writing, heads the great foundation Institut Levant (The Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilization Centre of Excellence of the World Academy of Art & Science) and offered some of his works to the Community library.

The GCM Committee and the President Mr. Lakis Vigkas, Archon M. Chartophylax of the M.T.C.E., welcomed Mr. President and his associates, expressing joy for the honor of the visit and underlining the symbolism in the development of relations and cooperation between Romania and Moldova with the historic Church of Panagia Paramythia Vlahsaray. For this reason, he offered him the icon of Panagia Paramythia.

President Emil Constantinescu and his entourage toured the courtyard, and the President pledged to support the Community's work for the restoration of the church, but also the preservation of historical memory, in order to cultivate the new residents and visitors of the area.
